• Public Transit

Calgary is a very driveable city but for commuters and students, you can't beat public transit. Downtown Calgary is expensive to park and there is limited parking in some key locations. Luckily there are a variety of options available through Calgary Transit.

Bus:

There are dozens of routes both in the city and suburbs that will get you into work or school. In fact, many communities have multiple bus routes that pass through their area and into downtown or commercial centres of the city. These buses maintain a regular daily schedule with increased bus service during peak hours.

Train (also referred to as C-Train or LRT):

The train is a favourite way to get into the downtown since it isn't affected by traffic or weather. However, for a long time the train route has been mainly north/south offering service from NW, NE and south Calgary into downtown only. The west LRT is nearing completion and will offer train service to many areas of the SW and west part of the city.

Special express bus service:

These are Calgary Transit buses that have a special route operating only during peak hours to accommodate high volume passengers into downtown or select schools. Study these routes carefully and save yourself commuting time. Many take you direct to a LRT station or reduce the amount of stops along their route into downtown to get you there faster.

STUDENTS:

School bus service for grades 7-12 is most frequently delivered by Calgary Transit. Youth bus passes can be purchased at a reasonable price and are good on all public transit, seven days a week, not just their school route. Be sure to check the student transportation area of the Calgary Transit web site to determine the best route to your school and the hours it operates.

FARE:

Exact fare can be used on the bus or at the train terminal. Tickets or transit passes can be purchased at Safeway and most major convenience stores around the city.
